Redemption is an idea of saving someone from a danger that is about to come, and man kind since the great fall has been in need of such. In fact, God has been offering man redemption from the beginning, but we have come to the idea that we really do not have any need of being saved. The Jews in the times of Jesus thought that they did not need any redemption (Jh. 8:35), but Jesus made it clear that the type of redemption these people needed was from sin. There are things of which we can be redeemed from and there are those that we cannot. For example, no one can be redeemed from death, because it is written that all men shall die (heb9:27). We live life as if we are not going to die, we name our homes after ourselves and we make long term investments we will some day die. Because we have that idea of living forever we would like to redeem those close to us.

Psalms 49:7-12

none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:(for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) that he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. 10 For he seeth that wise men die,
likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

Protecting and saving those around us is important and sometimes it becomes our number one priority, but frankly we cannot there is no price we can possibly pay for redeeming someone. Although there are those like Cain that do not want anything to do with saving someone (Ge4:9). A soul is precious especially to God and it is deemed for redemption (ps72:13-14). Now the redemption of a soul for eternal life is free but at the same time one has to maintain him/herself worthy (Lk20:35-36). Our keys to heaven can be lost, we can find ourselves unworthy to entering into the kingdom (1Co.15:1-2). We that are found worthy to enter eternal life will be transformed from the corruptible to the incorruptible before entering (1Cor15:52-54); it is the victory over eternal death.
