Members of a family:
We were never meant to be alone. Companionship is key to our survival as the human race. When God created Adam, he noticed that after a while, after Adam had named all the beasts, no helper was found for him, so Adam was lonely. God caused him to fall into a deep sleep, and out of one of his ribs made Adam a helper (Ge 2:23-24). We were created to be with each other as family through every circumstance life brings us, with the wife being that essential piece of the puzzle. The scriptures teach us that a man is blessed and finds favour with God when he finds a wife (Pr 18:22). Proverbs 31 tells us the virtues the woman brings to the family; 1. Trustworthiness, 2. Diligence and skills, 3. Strength and perseverance, 4. Generosity and compassion, 5. Wisdom and influence. So, when one of the members of the family is hurting or running into trouble, the woman, mom, is the first one who runs to the rescue. That is why the wife is such a crucial part of the family.
Mark 3:31-35
31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. 32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
There was talk that Jesus was going mad and was losing his marbles. The enemies of Christ were accusing him of being led by a demon, and that is why he was doing all the miracles and signs that he did. Some of his friends came to where he was and tried to take him away (Mk 3:20-22). The Lord confronted his enemies with the topic of unity. He told them that Satan’s kingdom, if it is divided, it will not stand. The goes with the family if it is divided, it too will not stand (Mk 3:23-25). Jesus’ brothers and sisters were not on his side when he embarked on the mission to save humanity (Mk 6:3). The Lord’s mom gathered all her children to come also to rescue him and take him home. They came to rescue him from the madness of the gospel.
Paul tells us that the preaching of the gospel is madness to those of the world (1 Cor 1:18). Jesus’ mother and siblings were confronted with a decision of family loyalty with kingdom loyalty. Jesus did not need to be rescued from the preaching of the gospel, but his family needed to submit to it. Now, the entire family, led by mom, if they wanted to be a part of his life, they needed to do the will of his heavenly Father. Mary, James, and Jude are the only known family members of Christ known to become part of the ministry. James and Jude both wrote their epistles in the bible.
Genesis 2:23-24
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Proverbs 18:22
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.
Mark 3:20-22
20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself. 22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.
Mark 3:23-25
23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
Mark 6:3
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
1 Corinthians 1:18
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
