Refreshed from the battle

After every battle one needs something to refresh and renew his/hers strength. We cannot go on fighting without pausing to regain momentum. Some battles can last a long time and some not. Every battle that today we engage in are both spiritual and carnal connotation. Our emotions and feelings are affected with every battle that we fight in. And, one thing that we ought to remember is that our battles are the Lords; that is when we put our trust in him. As Jahaziel told the people of God and king Jehoshaphat when they were surrounded by the enemy “the battle is the Lord’s” (2Chr20:15), so is ours. Too often we find ourselves fighting battles alone and not along side God. Just because the battle is the Lord’s does not mean that we need not be in the battle front. David told Goliath and the philistines that God was going to hand him over to him, because the battle belongs to the Lord (1Sam17:47). And, just knowing that God will fight along side us and give the victory is refreshing. Isaiah says that the warrior’s boot will be destine for fire, burnt(Is9:5), because the victory belongs to the Lord. So, trusting that God will fight for us and along side of us is refreshing.

Judges 15:15-16

15 Finding a fresh jawbone of a donkey, he grabbed it and struck down a thousand men. 16 Then Samson said, “With a donkey’s jawbone I have made donkeys of them.a]With a donkey’s jawbone I have killed a thousand men.”

Now, Samson was faced with a battle which seemed to the human eye as no contest. The enemy he was fighting all the time was greater in number by a large percentage, and yet Samson became used to having victory over them. The bible states that each time he was tied with ropes or vines the Spirit of God came over him and burned them as flax(Jud15:14). In this battle against one thousand men, God provided Samson with a fresh jawbone of a donkey by which he struck them all down. It must have been an exhausting fight, but one thing for sure is that God provides us with the necessary tools to fight till the end. And, Samson became exhausted because of this battle to the point that he called out to God; he was thirsty. After a rigor work out like fighting one thousand men, for sure anyone would thirst. We thirst and run dry because of our battles; whether physical or spiritual. But, Jesus said that if anyone does thirst let him come unto him (Jh7:38-39), because there is refreshing within him.

Samson found his God sent refreshment. After he called out to the Lord the bible teaches us that out of the same place where he found the jawbone, God caused water to flow for Samson to drink (Jud15:19). From the weapon of victory God provided the thing that refreshed Samson. And, so does he with us, he provides us with our battle weapon that very thing that will revive and strength us (ps29:11). The scripture says that they that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength (Is40:31), it is the renewing moment after the battle or within it.

The Lord gives strength to his people;
    the Lord blesses his people with peace.

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
