Musical instruments play an important part in the well being and the delight of us all. There is nothing like hearing the sound of a piano, saxophone, flute, trumpet and other instruments for a sooth saving moment. In fact, according to research music can heal your brains, calm your nerves and even boost your immune system. But, not just the musical instrument can have positive impact in ones lives, the music correctly played does that. If you play the instrument incorrectly it will be heard just as noise and have no effects. The apostle Paul said that if a person does not have love he is just as a sounding cymbal or gong with no effect (1Cor13:1). We are purposed to have a positive effect on other people, but in order for that to happen the noise that comes out of our mouths needs to have meaning. Today, a tone of urgency for saving someone needs to be felt through the voice of the believers. There is a growing concern about the tone or sound that we are playing. According to Pew Research Center there is a 16% decrease in professing Christians in the US; a steady decline over the years since 2009. There is a call to changing our ways in order for our lands to be healed (2Chr7:14).
Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
God gave instructions to his people with regards to a person that they would choose to be a watchman. This watchman needed to blow the warning trumpet when he saw the sword come, so that the people would be alarmed. Now, like any other instrument, the trumpet can be played and made to make a sound that is soothing, entertaining or with no rhythm; depending on the musician. The trumpet is one of those loud instruments that one would have to be deaf not to hear it. And, spiritual deafness is hurting the church, people are not hearing the warning sounds. Luke tells the church that there are many things that he needed to tell them, but that they are dull of hearing and he could not tell them (Heb5:11-12). There are many things that make us dull of hearing, especially from the sounds of the loud trumpet, being that that sound is difficult to tune out. One would really have to be callous for them not to hear the loudness of the trumpet. Jesus mentioned this callousness among God’s people in Matthews when he said that the people’s hearts was waxed gross (Mt13:15). Ultimately, one is responsible for his/her own soul, one either allows it to be saved or get lost(pro27:12).
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
