Knowing that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life requires believing in him and believing him; that he is who he says he is. It is easy to believe in God. In fact, mostly everyone believes in God even Satan and his forces believe in God and they tremble (Jm2:19). But, in order for one to truly take part of God’s kingdom and everything that he has for us, one has to do more then just believe in God, one needs to believe God. Sometimes, evidence of God’s awesomeness is right in front of our eyes and it passes us and we do not recognize it.  Thomas and Philip, two of Jesus’ disciples whom walked, ate, and were with Jesus most of the time were apart in their faith. Thomas was known as doubting. Thomas, although he walked with Jesus for 3 years he did not believe in the resurrection. His remark ““Let us also go, that we may die with him.” (Jh11:16) when Jesus invited the disciples to go and see Lazarus; who was dead, did not suggest any hope for resurrecting after dyeing. Thomas told his comrades that he would not believe unless he had seen the nail marks and touched his side (Jh20:25). Doubting Thomas finally believed and became a missionary to the east where he was martyred. Resurrection was constantly preached before Thomas but he could not believe it, and this he witnessed with Lazarus (Jh.11:25).

John 14:5-8

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know[a] my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Now, Philip became a follower of Jesus after he called him to follow him; Jesus. He; Philip, though did not fully understood Christ’s purpose followed him and we see this when Jesus tells him “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me,”(v9). In the feeding of five thousand Jesus tests Philip to figure out how they were going to feed all those people, and Philip could not see that the solution was right in front of him (Jh6:5-7). Philip was probably one of John’s disciples before he came to Christ, but once he came he brought Nathaniel with him. Like Thomas and Philip our answers are right in front of our faces, but because we are having a difficult time believing the blessing will pass us up. That is why Jesus told Philip “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time?”, because it was always in front of his face.
