Every person that comes to Christ and voluntarily accepts the invitation to join the family of God is promised a companionship like no other. People are not promised that they will be taken out of trial and tribulation, they are promised that though they will go through hardship God will be with them; your not alone! There are people who go through fiery trials and do get burnt. There those who when the dangerous waters of life try to drown do drown. But, Christians will not get burnt or drown though they feel those effects. Christians like no other religion have an edge over anything they could go through and that is the Lord; the might one of Israel, the creator of the universe is with them.

Isaiah 43 But now, this is what the Lord says—  he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel.“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,  they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush[a] and Seba in your stead. Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you,  nations in exchange for your life.

To understand this effect of Jacob we need to understand who is Jacob. Jacob was the younger brother of Esau who came out of the womb holding on to his brother’s ankle. Jacob had some of a bad testimony, he was known as a schemer, liar, and manipulator. He was like two in one persons like Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Jacob had a promise from God that descended from his grand father, and as Christians we have a promise too (Acts 16:31).  Jacob struggle with his relationship with God until he had a physical struggle with him and was injured in his hip(gen.32:24-26). Jacob became a changed but broken man his act of sleeping with rock as his pillow demonstrates his pain (Gen 28:10-11).  Jacob’s name was changed after his encounter with God. His name Jacob went from “he decieves” to “wrestle with God”; he fought and lost and was broken (Mat. 21:43-44).

Jacob’s effect is based on the spiritual truth that God will never leave you nor forsake you (Deut.31:6).  No matter what your life looks like or what you have or will go through God will be with you.
