Fathers are considered the priests of their home. Their functions as priests; similar to temple priest, is in their home to provide guidance as to the direction their families will go and to make sacrifices for their families. Now, there are those who are only baby makers and those who are casual fathers that have limited functions at home. In part, some of the reasons why some fathers are not active fathers at home with their families is because of low esteem. There things or ideas in life that have been increasing the amount of men with having low esteem, such as the media, the body weight and society. 80% of the world’s population suffer from low self esteem One of the things that results from low esteem is substance abuse including alcohol. Failures and the reminders tend to bring down someone’s esteem, and many fathers for the fear hold back from engaging in the family. Now, reminders of our failures come from our spouses, children and our accuser. The bible tells us that Satan the devil came to kill, steal and to destroy and one of his way by which he does this is by attacking our self esteem(Jhn10:10). He is known as the accuser of the brethren(Rev12:10), and his goal is to constantly remind us of our unworthiness, failures and unfit to do what we are called to do.
Zechariah 3
3 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan[a] standing at his right side to accuse him. 2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”
Every person some day will have to come before the very presence of God to be judged for the things we have do here in earth, but here Joshua is a symbol of a father who has be snatched from the fire standing near the accuser and an angel and the Lord himself. God has been at work snatching men from the expected fire to come(Rev20:15), and he has been using others to save others(Jude1:22). Now, the very first thing that God that he does, is rebuke Satan the accuser and shuts him up and he does this because once we come to Christ he, the accuser, has to stop accusing us. In order to over come low esteem one has to come to God. In a research study of children who went to church results found that these children did not have a low self esteem(self esteem). The next thing God does with Joshua is that he orders to be removed his old rags(Zec3:5), and this relates to our old way of living and how we feel about it(2Cor5:17). He orders for those at the place to dress Joshua with new clothing, and one comes to Christ the church looks at him as a new creature.
As fathers we are called to rule justly at our homes and this is a preempt for reigning in God’s kingdom (rev5:10,2tim2:12), and we see that God tells if he walks in obedience he will reign in his kingdom(zec3:6-7). Christ has to be the center of our homes and in Zechariah 3:8 God introduces Jesus as the branch which via the engraved scar he takes away the sin of the world.
