Satan’s rule:

Darkness is all around us, both figuratively and literally. The powers of darkness have become more active in these modern days than ever. Satan rules the darkness of this world. The Bible calls him “the ruler of the darkness of this world” (Eph 6:12). Everything that deals with blinding man, the things that separate us from God, sin, corruption, hate, emptiness, chaos, and disorder, is darkness. Genesis 1 describes the earth in chaos, in darkness (Gen 1:2). The spirit of God was moving over the waters as a symbol of hope and salvation. Darkness is a part of our lives, whether we want it or not. Darkness has become so integral to our daily lives that we have learned to like it. John tells us that we have learned to love darkness and therefore we run from the light (Jn 3:19). Jesus said that while we have his light within us, we must walk in it (Jn 3:35).

Psalms 18:28-30

28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.

29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

30 As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

The fire in the candle is what makes it shine for all to see. It is a symbol of zeal (Ro 12:11). Jesus said that no one lights a candle and puts it under a bushel but sets it where everyone can see it (Lk 8:16). After a while, darkness will cause a light to go out. God is the one who turns the fire in us on, but we cannot allow it to turn off. There are areas in our lives that, at one point, were light but have turned into darkness. The scriptures tell us that we need to watch out for darkness turning our light to darkness (Lk 11:35).  It is when we walk in light that we can run through the strongholds of the enemy and leap over their walls. God adds fire to light our internal lantern and turn the dark areas in us into light.
