Committed to save;
God has a track record of saving people out of their misery. Whenever we get into trouble or darkness starts to pursue us, it draws God’s attention. Sometimes, without us knowing, he lights a path for us to escape. Psalm 23 says that even though you walk through the shadow of death, you will not fear any evil (Ps 23:4). God is passionately committed to saving us, even after the cross. The greatest display of commitment to saving us was when God sent his only son into the world to bring us out of its darkness and into his marvelous light (1Pt 2:9). God has no pleasure in darkness nor in the forces that bring it, because he is light (1 Jh 1:5). So God will light a candle to light our way out of darkness. The Psalmist said that thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light to my path (Ps 119:105).
Psalms 18:28-29
28 For thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.
29 For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.
Those who trust in the Lord become untouchable when they call upon him to save them. David sang Psalm 18, in 2 Samuel 22, as he thought of the times when he was in danger and God saved him. He thought about the times when there was no other way out but through the enemy line, and God saved him. David had no other choice but to fight Goliath. He had no choice but to tackle the difficult situations, trusting God. David learned that what triggered God to save him was the condition of his heart (Ps 18:20). God heard David’s distress call (V. 6), and abruptly shook the earth and moved its foundations (V. 7). he became angry, smoke came out of his nostrils (V. 8). God came down on a cherub and the wings of the wind (V. 9). He stepped into darkness and took over it (V.11). From the thunder of his voice went out hail and fire (V.12). God sent his arrow and shot lightning at our enemies and scatters them. Then David said that God sent from above and saved him, taking him out of many waters (Ps 18:16-19). It is what God does for those who call upon him.
Psalms 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
1 Peter 2:9
9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
1 John 1:5
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Psalms 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalms 18:20
The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
Psalms 18:6-11
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
Psalms 18:16-19
16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.19 He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.
