Words once spoken cannot be taken back. Those of us who at one time or another stuck our feet in our mouths know what that is about. The phrase, “I should not have said that,” has been burned out. The Bible tells us that we need not be hasty when we speak a word to God (Ecc 5:2). We should also think twice before we say something to someone else. The scriptures tell us that a good word sweetens the soul (Pro 16:26). A time is coming when finding a good word will be hard. It brings relief. The prophet Amos tells us that a time would come when a famine not of food or water, but of hearing the word of God would come(Am 8:11). In the time of Samuel the prophet, there was a famine, as mentioned above, of the word of God (1 Sam 3:1). God was rarely speaking to his people, because the priests abhored the offerings sacrificed to God. God spoke to the prophet Samuel and told him about something that he would do something within his people that would tingle their ears (1 Sam 3:11). God removed the obstacle that kept the people from bringing their sacrifices to him; it tingled in their ears when anyone heard it.

Luke 7:6-7

6 Then Jesus went with them. That healing of the Centurion’s favorite servant created a tingle in their ears. The tingling of the word of God is associated with a physical or emotional sensational experience. The disciples who were on their way to the city of Emmaus, when they encountered Jesus, said that their hearts burned inside when he opened the scriptures to them (Lk 24:31-32). The burning sensation inside the disciple’s hearts is that tingly experience. The tingly experience is associated with God’s nearness. It is also known as the encounter with God.

Verses

Ecclesiastes 5:2

2 Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

Proverbs 16:26

26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

Amos 8:11

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

1 Samuel3:1

And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli.
