Taking the time and making the trip to the house to pray is indicative of some experience prior of God actually doing something for one. The Psalmist said, “I was glad when they said unto me let us go into the house of Lord” (Ps122:1). There is an excitement of some sort when the invitation goes out towards going to the house of the Lord. Certain events happens while in the house of God, such as prayers, praise giving and worship and the giving of alms. They say that the most charitable people are the ones who go to the house of God. The poor is satisfied with the alms of the house of the Lord (Ps22:26). In fact, the Lord recompenses those who bring alms to his house to give (Pr19:17). People, when they come to the house of the Lord expect to receive of him. The bible teaches us that the Lord is gracious and compassionate (Ps145:8-9) to all. So, when we come with the attitude of giving God gives back.

Acts 3:1-8

Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

The temple where Peter and John came to pray had nine gates, which were on every side covered with gold and silver; but there was one gate which was without the holy house, and was of Corinthian brass, and greatly excelled those which were only covered with gold and silver: It was the beautiful gate. The magnitudes of the other gates were equal one to another; but that of the Corinthian gate, which opened on the east, over against the gate of the holy house itself, was much larger. it was adorned after a most costly manner, as having much richer and thicker plates of silver and gold upon them than upon the other. The poor, the lame, and the sick stood at the steps waiting to receive alms from the worshipers. Peter and John were caught empty handed, they did not have any alms when they came to the house of God. If you ever been caught empty handed when someone is asking for money for food, it is dishearten.

This lame guy which everyone knew was in the condition from birth was one of those cases of hopelessness, that all that one could do is just give him alms. His condition was more than just a physical condition, it was a spiritual one. This paralysis forbade him from entering the house of God. The feet and ankles are symbols of working and walking with God (Is52:7), and this guy was deprived of just that. Peter and John had more just alms, the temporary fix for man, they had the inward filling that comes from prayer and fasting. Jesus called it river of living waters in John 7:38, the inward power that caused them man to heal. Something similar happened to a man born blind of which purpose was for the glory of God (Jh9:2-3) whom Jesus healed. This lame man’s spiritual and physical healed condition erupted into a praise and worship session the house of God like no other.

Verses

Psalms 122:1

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.

Psalms 22:26

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

Proverbs 19:17

17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the Lord; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

Psalms 145:8-9

8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.9 The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Isaiah 52:7

7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

John 7:38

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

John 9:2-3

2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Spanish

In the house of God Going to pray in the house of God is a powerful practice because one can never know what can happens on the way there.
