For many they find themselves fighting alone with whatever armament they might have. But for the believer and follower of Christ, many of our battles are fought by the Lord. King Hezekiah was a king none like any other, because from the very get go of his reign he set his heart to please the Lord. The Assyrian king and his mighty army came to take Jerusalem, but because God was with Hezekiah, and he defied the Lord he could not (2K19:32-34). Throughout the scriptures we find God fighting for his people. Another example we find in the scriptures is when the children of Israel came out of Egypt and were trapped between the Red Sea and the army of Pharaoh that God fought for them (Ex14:13-14). We find in the Old Testament many verses that tell us that God fights for his people, but in the New not so many. In fact, the scriptures tell us that God will pay retribution to those who trouble us (2Th1:6). That we have to fight the good fight of faith (1tim6:12).

Deuteronomy 20:1

When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the Lord your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.

Paul tells us that we have to put on the armor of God (Ef6:10-12), so that we can stand in the time of evil. So, now in the New Testament the battle is for the believer, but it is not to say that God is not with us for Paul tells us that if God is with us who can be against us. God set some rules for when his people would go into battle like for any and the first thing was that they could not be afraid. Fear of war is the first thing that needs to be eliminated from the warrior before engaging (Det20:3). The next rule was that those who were going to war should not have anything pending in their lives such as new properties, business, or relationships lest if he died, he would leave it to someone else (Det20:5-7). We see this when Jesus tells the parable of the invitation to the great banquet (Lk14:18-19), that one after the other made excuses for not coming. They had things pending that affected their call to participate in the event. The kingdom of God has had an escalating war against it since Christ came, and in order for anyone to have a complete enough experience they need to take it by force (Mt11:12).

Verses

2 Kings 19:32-34

32 “Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the king of Assyria: “‘He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow here. He will not come before it with shield or build a siege ramp against it.33 By the way that he came he will return; he will not enter this city, declares the Lord.34 I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.’”

Exodus 14:13-14

13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.
