He does not need physical objects or armies with great numbers, because our help is not based on earthen vessels. The Psalmist said that God does not delight on the strength that comes from horse or humans (ps147:10). In fact, the Lord says that any other strength that does not come from him is vain (Ps33:17), deliverance only comes from him. God told Gideon that he has too many men for this battle against the Midian army whose numbers were like the stars in the sky. And, so he had Gideon take his men to a river and drink. The men who lapped the water as dogs; three hundred of them along side Gideon, God used to delivered his people (Judges 7:7). He uses the small and insignificant to display his glory.

Luke 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is e:nough.

There is a mystery for the two swords the disciples brought to Jesus. As the time for the Lord Jesus Christ in earth came to a closure, and the enemy was about to give him the final blow, he tells his disciples to prepare. Before this moment Jesus sends his disciples and tells them not to take anything for their journey (Mt10:9-10), because the worker is meet of his labor. And, he assured the disciples that all their needs were going to be met during the journey (Ph4:19). But, in this case, Jesus tells the disciples that they need to get prepare for their journey; it was going to be a bumpy one. Judas was coming with a mob to turn in the Lord, and many soldiers were coming with swords. The two swords were not really swords but knives for either preparing meals, hunting small animals or cutting rope. Jesus’ idea of he who draws the sword dies with by it (Mt26:52), was held up to standard in this situation when telling the disciples to buy a sword.

The type of sword that Jesus was referring too in this mystery of the disciples buying, was more of becoming prepared for what was about to come, then of an actual sword for battle; the battle belongs to the Lord (2Chr20:15). A storm was about to be unleashed on the disciples like no other before, and it was going to hit them so hard that the core of their faith was going to be removed and they were going to be scattered. As Jesus walked out from the last supper and heads to the mountain his heart begins to faint and his entire demeaner was transformed into sadness.

Verses

Psalms147:10

His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of the warrior;

Psalms 33:17

A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.

PHJudges 7:7

7 The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.”

Matthew 10:9-10

9 “Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts— 10 no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.

Philippians 4:19

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Matthew 26:52

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. womb.

2 Chronicles 20:15

15 He said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem!
